Nippon Express establishes domestic removals company in Shanghai

New subsidiary to offer high-quality services in bid to break into China's domestic removals business

On October 11 Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Kenji Watanabe, President) established Nippon Express Removals Service (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a domestic removals subsidiary based in Shanghai, China that is scheduled to open for business in November.

Nippon Express has long provided removals services not only within Japan but also between Japan and other countries as well as between third countries. Heretofore, however, the domestic removals business in China has primarily consisted of simple point-to-point transport of household goods, creating a mismatch between the domestic removals services offered by our company and the needs of general Chinese consumers.

The country's rapid economic growth is spurring a significant rise in personal income among many Chinese, though, and these newly empowered consumers are increasingly seeking higher quality services from the companies they utilize. A market survey that included interviews with consumers revealed that changing consumption trends are leading to greater demand for fully-integrated high-quality removal services offering preliminary inspections, estimates, packing/unpacking and installation by specialists, suggesting that the domestic removals market in China may be heading for a new stage of growth.

In view of these background factors, Nippon Express decided to found a new company in China specializing in domestic removals to provide high-quality, reliable “Japanese-style“ removals services leveraging Nippon Express' record of performance and know-how in removals cultivated over many years both in Japan and overseas. The new subsidiary will begin operating in Shanghai, where customer demand is high, and go on to develop services tailored to the Chinese market in the hope of expanding throughout China.
