Mitsui receives awards for wireless LAN launch and MIRAI next-generation steel system

On February 20, 2013, Mitsui & Co., Ltd., received a Nikkei Communications Award at the Nikkei BP Cloud Innovation Awards 2013, for the simultaneous launch of a wireless LAN at all of its offices in Japan. Further, on February 6, Mitsui Knowledge Industry Co., Ltd. (MKI), a company in which Mitsui & Co. holds a 58.4% stake, received a Project Award at the SAP AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE for its MIRAI next-generation steel system project.
The Nikkei Communications Award recognized Mitsui's unique system which uses a cloud based service that eliminates the ownership of IT assets, is operated under a monthly fee basis covering all maintenance costs, features a centralized user authentication method created using standardized technology and services, and can be expanded into overseas offices in the future.

The SAP Project Award recognized the three-way partnership between MKI, SAP (a German software company) and Mitsui & Co./Mitsui & Co. Steel Ltd., to rebuild the core sales management system based on Mitsui's company-wide system platform known as MIRAI, which is to be used at the Iron & Steel Products BU and Mitsui & Co. Steel. The project made a major contribution to operational efficiency not only within the Iron & Steel Products BU but throughout the entire Mitsui & Co. Group, assuring cost reductions in system design, development, operation and maintenance, and improvements in internal control.
