Nippon Kayaku launches embolic microspheres, “HepaSphere® Microspheres” and “Embosphere® Microspheres” in Japan

Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, President, Akira Mandai) announced today that it has launched embolic microspheres, “HepaSphere® Microspheres” and “Embosphere® Microspheres” and added in its lineup of IVR (Interventional Radiology) field.
Both products are medical devices of which early introduction to Japan is recommended by "the 10th Investigative Commission about Expedited Introduction of Medical Devices etc. Which Are Strongly Needed in Medical Treatment" of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, held in January, 2009.
Nippon Kayaku entered into an agreement with BioSphere Medical, Inc., that is a subsidiary of Merit Medical Systems, Inc. (South Jordan, Utah, USA, CEO, Fred P. Lampropoulos), for its exclusive development and commercialization right in Japan in April, 2009 and has developed.
Nippon Kayaku sells “IA-call (cisplatin for intra-arterial injection)” used for hepatocellular carcinoma indication, “Gelpart (porous gelatin : medical device)” used for trans-arterial embolization to hepatocellular carcinoma patients and “Serescue (porous gelatin : medical device)” used to stop bleeding by trans-catheter arterial embolization to bleeding patients who are high risk in surgical operation or inoperable. As one of our important domains on oncology field, we are focusing on IVR (Interventional Radiology) field.
We are aiming at strengthening oncology-related IVR product line extension to be able to suit targeted organs, diseases and patients. By launching a high-medical-need product early, we would like to contribute further for patients, the family and medical staffs as well as improvement in cancer treatment results.
