Marubeni Enters the Photovoltaic Module Testing Business in United States

On March 12th, Marubeni Corporation (hereinafter, “Marubeni”) acquired a 70% share of Renewable Energy Test Center, LLC (hereinafter, “RETC”), thus entering the photovoltaic modules testing business in the United States. Marubeni will have a 70% ownership interest in RETC while PFIL North America, Inc. (hereinafter, “PFIL NA”), an existing investor, will have a 30% ownership interest. PFIL NA is a member of the Philippine-based Ayala Group of Companies.
RETC provides certification testing services that verify the safety of photovoltaic modules, and bankability test services that evaluate the long-term reliability and durability of photovoltaic modules. Additionally, RETC is putting together a new certification test service for electric vehicle batteries and for stationary storage batteries which is slated for launch in 2019.
With the growing interest and rapid spread of renewable energy represented by photovoltaic power generation, it is not just photovoltaic modules, but also the safety of storage batteries indispensable for stable power supply, and the demand for long-term reliability that are rising on a global level.
Marubeni has developed a strong presence in the industry over the course of more than 20 years in the photovoltaic power generation business and aims to provide safe and reliable equipment and services by investing in RETC. Furthermore, Marubeni is involved with the collection of new technology and product information on things like photovoltaic modules and storage batteries. Marubeni will continue to work towards the expansion of an “electrified society” which is brough about by renewable energy such as photovoltaic power generation, storage batteries and rapid chargers for electric vehicles.
