Organizational and Personnel Changes
TOKYO, July 26, 2018 -- Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 4519) announced today the following organizational and personnel changes, effective October 1, 2018.

Establishment of the Foundation Medicine Unit
With the start of activities to commercialize the products of Foundation Medicine Inc. (FMI) in Japan this March, the company announced its filing for regulatory approval for FMI‘s “FoundationOne CDx™ (overseas product name) ,” a comprehensive genomic profiling assay for solid tumors. In addition, the PHC Strategy Dept. was newly established this April as an organization for the promotion of Personalized Healthcare (PHC), and the company has been making preparations to launch FMI products in Japan.
At this time, the company will be further enhancing its business system and newly establishing “Foundation Medicine Unit” as an independent division from the pharmaceutical business divisions for the centralized management of FMI business from regulatory functions to functions for provision of information. The company will also be newly establishing “Foundation Medicine Business Dept.” under the Unit. With this organizational change, the company aims to further accelerate expeditious contribution to cancer genome medicine in Japan and to adequately provide genomic alternations data and other information which is related to its products and those of partner companies through maximization of the value of FMI products. “PHC Strategy Dept.” in the Project & Lifecycle Management Unit will be abolished. The function of the PHC Strategy Dept. to promote genome medicine will be transferred to “Scientific & Technology Intelligence Dept.” in the Project & Lifecycle Management Unit.
