Sojitz Corporation ("Sojitz") is pleased to announce that it attended with Sembcorp Industries Limited ("Sembcorp"), a leading energy and urban solutions provider in Asia, and Kyushu Electric Power Co. ("Kyushu Electric") the MOU ceremony of the AZEC Leader’s Meeting (※1) on December 16, 2023.

【MOU Ceremony of AZEC Leader’s Meeting】

Under the MOU signed by Sojitz, Sembcorp, and Kyushu Electric, we will pursue the opportunity for a green ammonia production project in India that will be generated using renewable energy.

Sembcorp will lead the development of the project, including the selection of the most suitable project site and technology, design, procurement, construction, and operation of the renewable energy power plants and hydrogen and ammonia production facilities.

Sojitz and Kyushu Electric will seek off-takers that can contribute to the transformation of the industrial structure, arrange marine transportation, and procure project financing.

By promoting this project, Sojitz will contribute to the decarbonization of Japan by producing low-cost green ammonia in India which has high competitiveness in renewable energy, and contribute to the diversification of green energy supply by establishing a new supply chain from India, a non-traditional energy supplier for Japan.

(※1) AZEC: Asian Zero Emissions Community. A Japanese government-led initiative that aims to achieve energy transition, decarbonization, and carbon neutral in Asia by leveraging Japan's zero-emission technologies, systems, and know-how, including hydrogen and ammonia, in cooperation with other Asian countries in a manner that is suited to the actual situations in Asia.
