Azbil procures certified renewable energy for 100% of the electricity purchased by the Fujisawa Technology Center

—Significant progress toward achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050—

TOKYO, July 4, 2024: Azbil Corporation (headquarters: 2-7-3, Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Group CEO: Kiyohiro Yamamoto) announced that it had signed a power purchase agreement in July 2024 with Clean Energy Connect, Inc. (headquarters: 2-7-1, Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Teppei Uchida; hereinafter "CEC") and TEPCO Energy Partner, Inc. (headquarters: 8-13-1, Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Momoko Nagasaki; hereinafter "TEPCO EP") for an off-site corporate power purchase agreement (PPA)*1 service (hereinafter “PPA service”) using solar power generation. Azbil has begun procuring certified renewable energy for 100% of the electricity purchased by the Fujisawa Technology Center.

The azbil Group contributes to solving energy issues faced by society and customers through its automation business and is formulating policy and plans for decarbonization based on its “2050 Long-Term Vision for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions.”

The azbil Group has also set “reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its own business activities“ as a material measure in its medium-term plan (FY2021-FY2024). The Group has been working to reduce GHG emissions by switching to procure 100% of the electricity from renewable energy sources, used at mother factories, the Shonan Factory, and Hadano Distribution Center in Japan, and by installing solar power generation equipment at group company factory, including other R&D facilities.

The electricity to be supplied through the newly concluded PPA service will be generated by multiple Non-FIT*2 low-voltage solar power generation facilities installed outside the Fujisawa Technology Center's premises and developed and operated by CEC exclusively for the Fujisawa Technology Center. The procurement of renewable energy through this PPA service will be considered as additional renewable energy procurement*3

For the purchased electricity that is insufficient for actual demand supplied through the PPA service, we will procure electricity from TEPCO EP that is certified renewable energy. As a result, the Fujisawa Technology Center will join the Shonan Factory, Hadano Distribution Center, and other Group factories in purchasing 100% renewable electricity, achieving zero GHG emissions at all major azbil Group sites.

The Fujisawa Technology Center accounts for 24% of the total electricity used in the azbil Group (according to fiscal year 2023 results). With the newly announced amounts added to the renewable energy that is already used, 63% of the electricity used by the azbil Group will be renewable. This is a significant progress toward achieving carbon neutrality in the azbil Group.

Through their collaboration, the three parties to this contract will promote GX solutions that combine energy conservation and renewable energy. By combining storage batteries, wind power generation, and building management systems to improve the utilization rate of renewable energy 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, they will continue to provide cutting-edge green power solutions and realize effective efforts to solve the problem of climate change.
