Kazuki Kanamoto, a member of the Imaging Group in Shimadzu Corporation's Analytical & Measuring Instruments Division R&D Department, took part in the Child Mind Institute — Problematic Internet Use competition on Kaggle the world's largest AI competition platform, and won a gold medal. Out of 3,559 teams that participated, he came in 8th and was certified as a “Kaggle Master”, which is equivalent to being in the top 1% of competitors.

Kaggle is the world's largest AI model accuracy competition platform, with over 20 million data scientists and AI engineers competing on subjects presented by companies and researchers. The aim of this competition was to predict the severity of internet addiction in adolescents based on a combination of data obtained in the home, such as sensor data from wrist-worn devices, questionnaires, and physical measurement scores. Held from September 20 to December 20, 2024, the competition was organized by the Child Mind Institute (sponsored by NVIDIA and DELL Technologies).
Shimadzu has been contributing to improving its customers’ research and development and productivity by improving our data analysis technology and utilizing AI software in analytical and measuring instruments and medical equipment. Kanamoto, who was promoted to “Kaggle Master” award, is involved in the development of AI-equipped products such as the multi-data analysis platform “PLUS ALGO”, the X-ray fluoroscopy software “PLUS ALGO AM”, and the cell observation support application “Cell Pocket”. Shimadzu Corporation will continue to promote research and development and social implementation to become a “company that offers end-to-end solutions that include the data customers need,” as laid out in our medium-term management plan.
