Rina Komokata and Nagisa Suzuki have joined Shimadzu Corporation’s SHIMADZU Breakers tennis team. As employee players, the two will work hard at both their jobs and their athletic activities. Komokata won the singles championship and doubles runner-up in the 2024 Australian Open Deaf Tennis Competition while a student at Doshisha University, and won two titles in the same tournament in January of this year in Deaf Tennis in which hearing-impaired players compete. She has been selected to represent Japan at the Deaflympics in Tokyo, an international sporting event for the hearing impaired, which will be held this November. She aims to win medals in the singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events. Suzuki won the Kanto Inter-collegiate Tennis Tournament in singles and doubles while studying at Meiji University and led her team as an ace player in the Kanto University Tennis League. After joining the team, they will aim to advance to the top of domestic tournaments such as the All Japan Tennis Championships and the National Sports Festival. The two players will also participate in the “Tennis Japan League,” which determines the best company team in Japan and will also work on contributing to community activities.
The SHIMADZU Breakers consists of seven female players: four professional players and three employees. Shimadzu has been a special sponsor of the Shimadzu All Japan Indoor Tennis Championships since 1996, supporting athletes and people who enjoy sports.
