Jasdaq to become a member of WFE
Shanghai, China. October 15, 2007 - Jasdaq Securities Exchange, Inc. became a member of
World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) today.
Since shifting from the over-the-counter market to a securities exchange in December 2004,
Jasdaq has worked to improve the environment of stock exchanges in Japan. With the accession to
WFE, we strive to take further part in various activities in the international market as a responsible
member of this institution.
About WFE
Name:
World Federation of Exchanges (WFE)
Establishment: 1961
Member:
56 exchanges in 47 countries and areas (as of October 16)
Head office:
Paris, France
History
Predecessor of WFE was established as an informal co-operation by several
European bourses in 1957. After London Stock Exchange became a member
in 1961, it formed as a formal institution as the FIBV (Federation
Internationale des Bourses de Valeurs ). Over time, the businesses run by
members came to include derivative markets, clearing houses, settlement
agencies and other financial services. For this reason, the General Assembly
voted in 2001 to change the name to the World Federation of Exchanges.
Today membership encompasses 56 exchanges from all over the world,
including NYSE becoming a member in 1966, Tokyo Stock Exchange in
1970, Osaka Stock Exchange in 1973, and Jasdaq Securities Exchange in
2007.
Operation:
WFE holds a general assembly every autumn where we discuss and report
issues of common interest on the capital market among members (This year
it held in Shanghai). In addition to the general assembly, WFE hold
committee meetings, conferences, work shops, forums around the world.
Also, WFE works with public authorities, and helps promote informed use of
markets.
