SIOS to Showcase Comprehensive Cloud Management Solution
for Hybrid and Federated Clouds at CeBit 2010
SIOS shows how Enterprises Get Greater Business Value
using Amazon Web Services by deploying critical applications
across both on-premise datacenter resources and AWS
TOKYO, JAPAN, March 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (CeBit 2010, Hanover, Germany) – SIOS Technology, Inc. (TYO:3744) today announced that, as part of its earlier publicized Cloud strategy, it is showcasing deployment of mission-critical business applications using Amazon Web Services. Its product, CloudStationTM, provides internal and external cloud application workload management with integrated application and data availability solutions.
Although studies from leading analysts like IDC indicate that Enterprises are more likely to pursue the cloud model for applications in categories such as collaboration, web, data back-up, CRM/SFA, HR, LMS, Customer Service, and ERP (IDC, “New IDC IT Cloud Services Survey: Top Benefits and Challenges”, 2009), large enterprises are first taking smaller steps with cloud-enabled IT services in areas such as test and development. Deploying their mission-critical applications into an external cloud requires a level of application protection, which addresses security, availability, and performance concerns.
“Cloud computing technology has generated a lot of excitement in the IT industry, but many enterprise customers have held back on adoption for business-critical workloads, waiting for higher levels of availability and security to be supported by their cloud services," said Frank Gens, Chief Analyst at IDC. "A modular technology solution allows customers to adopt cloud computing through a step-by-step approach, adding more capabilities over time. This approach acknowledges the importance of manageability and controllability in the enterprise computing environment, whether that is instantiated in a private cloud or public cloud topology.”
SIOS addresses its customer’s needs with its modular approach and support for both private and public cloud topologies. For example, business continuity is an option within the CloudStation console, which can be selectively deployed and managed by application. Enterprise customers can benefit from public cloud services, like AWS, as an “active” mirror of their mission-critical applications and data, while taking advantage of resource on demand, paying for what you use, turning fixed costs into variable, and freeing up resources. CloudStation is also cloud agnostic – another example of modularity, and flexibility.
Unlike vendors of HA/DR solutions who are announcing support of the cloud as an add-on, SIOS is taking a more holistic approach. SIOS believes that HA/DR is a core feature of a much broader market requirement – centralized management of application workloads across internal and external cloud IT deployments.
“Amazon has built an enterprise-class Infrastructure as a Service.” said Nobu Kita, president and CEO of SIOS. “One natural use of services like AWS is to leverage them to protect on-premise mission-critical applications, significantly cutting internal datacenter costs associated with infrastructure investment to implement high availability. This is a natural evolution beyond using the cloud for test and development.”
Customer use-cases of SIOS’ CloudStation are being demonstrated at CeBit 2010 in the SteelEye Technology booth (Hall 2, Stand C27). SIOS is demonstrating how it protects SugarCRM from on-premise disruption with seamless user-migration to a mirror copy of the application and business data in AWS in real-time. SIOS will also demonstrate a trading application running on IBM’s WebSphere and DB2 infrastructure with a similar business continuity scenario.
