Establishment of an Organization


Osaka, June 17, 2010 –
Shionogi & Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Osaka; President: Isao Teshirogi; hereafter
“Shionogi”) today announced that it will establish an organization as of July 1, 2010.
1. Establishment of Unit for Judicious Use of Antibiotics
In the present infectious disease therapy, effort from global perspective is needed with regard to judicious use of
existing antibiotics and controlling the increase of infectious diseases with resistant bacteria. In response to this,
“The Recommendation for Judicious Use of Antibiotics” was shown in the Annual Meeting of Japanese Society
for Bacteriology in this March, and importance of implementation of judicious use and significance as a national
policy has been proposed.

Shionogi takes this circumstance seriously and will newly establish ‘Unit for Judicious Use of Antibiotics’ as of
July 1, 2010.

The Company has positioned contribution to infectious diseases area as the significance of existence for
Shionogi, and has concentrated to total activity from Research and Development to Sales and Marketing. From
now on, the Company is engaging in educational activities on implementation of judicious use of antibiotics, and
is striving to contribute more for infectious disease therapy.
