Research Activities Begin on the Open Innovation Model Using the Academic Findings of Neuroscience and Peripheral Domains

(Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Hirokazu Toda) will be setting up “Applied Neuroscience Research and Development Committees” (“R&D Committees”) along various highly-original research themes, but related to each of the company’s business activities, in the Consortium for Applied Neuroscience (“CAN”), which has been established by the NTT Data Institute of Management Consulting, Inc. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazumichi Taniguchi) in cooperation with the Japan Neuroscience Society. Along with other cross-industrial member corporations（※1）, special member companies will establish R&D committees, and will invite researchers in the field of each theme, as well as from different fields, to implement open innovation model research activities using the latest academic findings.

【About the research theme for which Takenaka is the lead manager】
■Communication Space Research Committee (Lead manager: Takenaka Corporation)
Human beings are unknowingly influenced in various ways by the architectural space surrounding us. Up to now, we have taken positive steps in research about how the architectural space affects the health and intellectual productivity of individuals. This research committee will focus on the relationship between individuals (especially with regard to communication), with the aim of clarifying what type of space spurs “good communication,” and fosters good relations (and trust), through neuroscience. For that purpose, research will be carried out with the assistance of neuroscientists and social psychologists using case studies of creative communication in corporate R&D spaces, and communication in spaces where there is customer service.
Information regarding the R&D Committees being set up by each of the companies is planned to be continually updated and made public on the Consortium for Applied Neuroscience website（※2）. For details, please see the site below.
