JT Removes the Purchase Order Ceiling on its Products
in the Japanese Domestic Tobacco Business

Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT) (TSE: 2914) announced today that the purchase order ceiling for
retailers with respect to 57 products of the Japanese Domestic Tobacco Business will be
removed on July 25, earlier than announced, to resolve the inconvenience and trouble
caused to consumers and our tobacco retailers as early as possible. Removal of the
purchase order ceiling for JT’s total of 73 products was previously announced as
scheduled for August 1. For specific product names, please see the Appendix.

With respect to the remaining 16 products, the purchase order ceiling will be removed on
August 1.

This update is not related to the activities of Japan Tobacco International (JTI) where
worldwide operations continue as usual.

We will do everything we can to strengthen our competitiveness, aiming to recover
market share as early as possible by actively launching new products with a focus on
main brands and conducting effective marketing and promotion activities.
