RIKEI ANNOUNCES J-PAYMENT'S ADOPTION OF "ThreatMetrix" ONLINE FRAUD PREVENTION SOLUTION WHICH MAKES INTERNET SETTLEMENTS MORE SECURE.
Rikei Corporation (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Katsuei Aoyagi) would like to announce that J-Payment (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President & CEO: Kenji Kiyohisa) has adopted an Online Fraud Prevention Solution developed and produced by ThreatMetrix, a US company (President & CEO Reed Taussig) which is being handled by Rikei as the distributor in Japan.
About ThreatMetrix On-Line Fraud Prevention Solution
This solution is the only global online fraud prevention network solution available in the international market, which prevents fraud cases at the time of payment at the Web site and efficiently creates e-commerce new accounts, thus contributing to higher efficiency of on-line settlements and account log-ins.
Background for J-Payment Adoption of this Solution
J-Payment is undertaking Internet settlement services for e-commerce site operators on their behalf, which include settlements by credit cards, at convenience stores, pre-paid settlements, settlements by electronic money, money transfers through banks which are required for the operation of e-commerce sites with a lot of efforts focused on security measures.
In recent years, the number of illegal accesses from overseas for the purpose of illegally obtaining information contained in each credit card as well as security-related incidents is increasing, and a more powerful security system for online shopping is being sought.
Thinking a more powerful security measure is necessary to match the rapid expansion of the online business market, this solution was upgraded last year to fully meet the industry's top level standard PCIDSS1.2, which was set to attain a powerful security in connection with security policies, technical and physical security, and then to meet PCIDSS2.0 in April this year.
J-Payment has decided to adopt this solution by highly evaluating the following features of the solution to take a more powerful security measure.
Features contributing to J-Payment's Adoption
- Introduction of this solution is very simple. (What you have to do is just to insert a HTML tag into the Settlement Page.
- No need to ask customers to enter any new additional information.
- Real-time checks of devices used and real-time judgment whether a fraud case or not.
- Ability to change risk policies on the shop side.
- Ability to use a black list covering devices used in tens of millions of fraud cases reported across the world.
- High cost-performance.
- 75% of fraud cases outside Japan have been prevented by adopting this solution.
Differences from Other Authentication Systems
Unlike this solution, most fraud prevention customer authentication systems require some private information to be entered in order to judge whether the customer entering such private information is the customer himself or herself, or whether the customer is accessing with ill intention or not. Meanwhile, "ThreatMetrix Online Fraud Prevention Network Solution" does not require any private information to be entered, and istead, it automatically obtains device information such as information about the PC used as well as information related to Web transactions such as geographical information about the customer, and checks real-time whether multiple credit cards are not used on the same day of authentication, and whether expensive purchases are not made, and whether the country from which access was made differs each day as well as a proxy server is not being used. At the same time, this solution is also designed to check the list of devices whose information is stored in the database to judge real-time whether the device being used was not used in the past fraud cases to determine whether the customer is not accessing with ill intention.
Features of this Solution
- Assigns a specific device ID to each PC for identification purpose with a high accuracy.
- Identify each PC accurately even if IP address is changed, access location is moved or a proxy server is used.
- Identification can be done without changing your browse3r or without having to use Cookie.
- Can identify a PC which is infected with a bot virus (*).
- Scores are given to various risks such as use of a proxy server, multiple use of the same credit card within a short time, use of multiple accounts, based on which you can change your responses (approval, refusal, or re-check).
* bot virus = a kind of virus which causes serious damages, with which an attacker with ill intention will send a huge number of e-mails to a target PC through remote control from outside, or take out information within the PC.
How to Introduce this Solution
What you have to do is just to insert a ThreatMetrix HTML tag into the Payment Page or other specific location of each e-commerce site. This can assign a specific device ID and a risk score to the PC which is attempting to access.
