Nippon Express (Malaysia) expands logistics operations in Penang
13 Jun 2012
-- Addressing intensifying needs with warehouse expansion --
Nippon Express (Malaysia) Sdn Bdn ("NEM"; Tsutomu Iwasaki, President), a local subsidiary of Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (Kenji Watanabe, President), held a ceremony on May 24 to mark the completion of an annex to NEM's warehouse in the Bayan Lepas Industrial Park in the Malaysian state of Penang.
More than 90 persons attended the ceremony, with the guests including provincial government, customs, police and fire officials and representatives from airline and shipping companies as well as NEM President Tsutomu Iwasaki and representatives from the warehouse design management and construction companies.
A large number of Japanese and Western semiconductor, electrical equipment and electronic component manufacturers have set up operations in Penang and, with manufacturers of solar cells and other environment-related products and of pharmaceutical products being enticed to the area in recent years, the need for high-quality logistics warehousing has risen.
Conveniently located 5km from Penang International Airport and 20km from Penang Port, the Bayan Lepas Industrial Park is home to numerous corporate manufacturing facilities. A second major bridge linking Penang Island and the Malay Peninsula is to be completed in 2013 immediately nearby, boosting expectations of the industrial park's potential as a logistics base.
NEM is committed to providing high-quality logistics services to meet the increasingly diverse and sophisticated needs of customers in Malaysia as the country continues to grow as a production site and a consumer market.
