The Grand Opening of Yanmar Museum

In March of 2012, Yanmar celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding.
On this occasion, as one of our centennial activities, we are proud to announce the completion of the Yanmar Museum, built in Shiga Prefecture's Nagahama City, the home of Yanmar's founder.
The Yanmar Museum is located in one corner of the Kurokabe district, a popular tourist destination in Nagahama. Designed to be a lively and enjoyable experience, visitors to the 3,000 m2 facility will be met with a variety of entertaining educational exhibits centered on the themes of Food Production and Harnessing Power. From the agricultural machinery that supports the lives and livelihoods of people the world over to the construction equipment that plays such an important role in urban development, and more, all of the exhibits are real Yanmar products displayed how they were intended to be used or, in the case of our leisure products, enjoyed. The museum also features simulators that allow visitors to get a feel for what it's like to operate construction equipment or drive a leisure boat. The Energy Zone offers the opportunity to learn about the latest environmentally friendly energy saving systems in a fun game for all the family. Our Engineering Zone introduces Japan's superior manufacturing technology and highlights the significance of our skill succession programs.
On the second floor of the museum is a workshop area where visitors can take cooking classes using locally grown rice, or learn more about some of the theory behind the harnessing of power as they build a pop-pop boat. The nearby Yanmar Agricultural Center (provisional naming) also offers the opportunity to try your hand at rice planting or harvesting, as well as the planting, cultivation, and harvesting of seasonal vegetables at regular events held throughout the year.
Through these types of hands-on activities, the Yanmar Museum hopes to show children and visitors of all ages how interesting and exciting manufacturing can be and demonstrate the importance of rising to a challenge. A center of learning unlike any other, where entertainment meets education, why not make the Yanmar Museum a part of your next day out.

2. Background:
With our founder's spirit: "Grateful to serve for a better world" paramount, together with a "focus on the challenges our customers face" and considering our "contributions to society", Yanmar has built its business in agricultural machinery, fisheries and a host of industrial fields on the strength of its diesel engine technology.
Nagahama is where Yanmar's founder, Magokichi Yamaoka was born and grew up, and it continues to hold a special place in Yanmar's history. In thanks to the support of people from all over the world, who over the last century have given Yanmar so much, the Yanmar Museum was established as a means of bringing the story of Yanmar to a new generation.

Adults: ¥600; Elementary and junior high school students: ¥300; Preschool-age: free of charge.
Group bookings: There is a ¥100 discount per person for groups of 20 or more.

Train: 10 minutes' walk from Nagahama Station, JR
Hokuriku Line. A shuttle bus operates from JR Nagahama Station Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
Car: 10 minutes by car from Hokuriku Expressway Nagahama I.C.

10:00-18:00 (last reception 17:00)
Closed: Mondays (or Tuesday if the Monday is a public holiday or substitute holiday).
Closed over the New Year from December 29 to January 3.

Focusing on the Yanmar Group's three business domains of on the land, at sea and in the cities the Yanmar Museum showcases Yanmar's enterprise, working in harmony with nature in the fields of food production and harnessing power. The Yanmar Museum is based around the concept of imparting a lasting and unique experience to visitors through rich and varied exhibits and workshops.

- By providing a unique and stimulating experience through the museum's displays and activity corners, have visitors come away from the Museum invigorated and inspired.
- Impart some awareness of the history and future of Yanmar's efforts in the domains of food production and harnessing energy.
- By introducing visitors to our "Founder's Spirit", "Fundamental Principles" and "Company Activities", have them gain some appreciation of Yanmar's identity.
