Ciaran O'Kelly Joins Nomura as Managing Director and Head of Equities, Americas

New York, July 20, 2009 – Nomura Securities International, Inc. (NSI) a U.S. broker-dealer within the Nomura Group, announced today that Mr. Ciaran T. O'Kelly has joined the firm as Managing Director and Head of the Equities, Americas. Mr. O'Kelly's responsibilities include all liquid markets, derivatives and prime services at NSI. He is based in New York City and reports to Mr. Shigesuke Kashiwagi, Chairman, President and Chief Executive of NSI and globally to Mr. Rachid Bouzouba, Managing Director and Head of Equities, Nomura International plc who reports to Mr. Naoki Matsuba the Head of Global Equities based in New York.

Mr. O'Kelly joins NSI from Bank of America, where he was Head of Global Equities, leading a team of over 1000 professionals responsible for all equities sales, trading and capital raising, including institutional and corporate derivatives, convertibles, underwriting, cash trading, electronic and program trading, and prime brokerage for the firm. In client commissions generated, the team was consistently ranked first or second in trading listed options, ETFs and over the counter derivatives, as well as a top five broker in cash equities, block trades and risk arbitrage. In addition, the group was named among the highest quality program, algorithmic and electronic providers in client surveys. In his seven years at Bank of America, Mr. O'Kelly held leadership roles across Markets and Banking, including Head of Equity Sales and Trading and Head of Equity Capital Markets. Prior to that, Mr. O'Kelly worked at Smith Barney/Citigroup for 11 years, most recently as Head of Equity Trading.

Mr. O'Kelly received a Bachelor of Business Studies from Dublin City University.

NSI plans to build on the momentum it has established this year, with further targeted recruitment of world-class salespeople and traders to build-out the U.S. Equity division. Beginning in October 2008, NSI hired teams of professionals in Global Program Trading, Derivatives Trading and Quant Analytics and Systematic Trading.
