Subaru WRX STI Scores Class Win in the 2015 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race

Tokyo, May 18, 2015 – Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, is pleased to announce that Subaru Tecnica International (STI)^*1 took the SP3T class^*2 win in the 2015 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race held in Germany from May 14 to 17, with the “Subaru WRX STI NBR Challenge 2015”, a racing car developed based on a WRX STI mass-production model.

After the team^*3 took pole position in qualifying held on May 14 and 15, they maintained the lead in its class throughout the final with a steady race. Driven by Carlo van Dam (Netherlands), Marcel Lasée (Germany), Tim Schrick (Germany) and Hideki Yamauchi (Japan), the WRX STI completed 143 laps (approx. 3,629km) in 24 hours and claimed a class win with a lead of 12 laps over the 2nd place car in the class. The team finished in the 18th place overall against 151 cars, the highest overall rank the team has ever achieved. STI has competed in the Nürburgring 24-Hour Race for 8 consecutive years. This marks the 3rd win in the SP3T class for STI following its victories in 2011 and 2012 races.

The victory is a testament that the Subaru WRX STI is capable of fully exerting its AWD (All-Wheel Drive) sports performance on circuits such as the Nürburgring which is one of the most challenging and dangerous tracks in the world that is open to the public.
